I did make myself a coffee like you suggested Taylor, and I got so much out of the chat and just as much out of the newsletter. I love what Jon said about his process being so much more complicated, I ate and intimate then what it was at the beginning. Throughout I struck by this idea of creating a space to revisit, and picking the exact moment of humor. I also love the idea of the pace of an Archie comic, how it’s great for a book, and maybe how it might be nice for real life to feel like that. Thank you for this treasure, it felt like spending a couple of hours with the both of you. Your writing inspires me.
I felt myself nodding along to so many parts of this inspiring discussion. Thanks for having it and sharing it with all of us! I especially liked the talk of fear and restraint in books vs films, which made me think of JAWS and how fortunate for all of us that the expensive mechanical sharks malfunctioned. Not seeing the shark for most of the movie made it so much better. And, when Jon was talking about the story with the kid appearing on the bad king's bed and the contrast of softness and safety with ultimate danger and how thrilling discovering these age appropriate scary stories was I was thinking, "Yes. Exactly this."
Thanks for sharing Taylor’s awesome newsletter Jen! I listened to it actively with my coffee as a storm was brewing, and I thought of you while I was doing it, like we were all in the same neighbourhood with freshly poured white pavements.
Thanks for listening, Jen! I loved that stuff about the Bad King and the bed, too. It's such a strange and interesting scene. Jon explained it so well. Happy a lot of what he talked about resonated with you.
This was great! I especially liked hearing Jon's insights on The Far Side and choosing the perfect storytelling moment. I will be thinking about that a lot.

What an awesome chat! I love seeing the hints of all of these books in his work. Thanks for all your work on this so we can enjoy it 😊

Well, this was just delightful, period. Well done!
Thanks! We hope you enjoy the convo, too. :)
Haven't made it there yet, but I'll listen this weekend!
