Many of these I already love, and many are in the to-be-read pile that only lives in my brain, which is a horrendous place to keep a list! Thankfully I now have this post to come back to, so thanks :)

By the way my girls and I are also huge fans of Julie Morstad. ‘Today’ is our current favorite!

Love that Kafka quote! I have really gravitated toward axe books for myself lately, and now I realize that must not be an accident.

Can't wait to check out some of your favorites. Thanks for sharing!

Yes! But also, I'm a big fan of those nighttime party animals—guess I’ll join them under the light of the full moon!

We got haw êkwa! for our cool nieces (the same nieces who STOLE my copy of How to Pee Your Pants, they really get the good stuff). My partner, a skateboarder, commented that Julie Flett's artwork was really special because it so perfectly captured the specific body language of that sport. He said it's rare to see it so beautifully depicted! She's such a fantastic observer.

Your nieces are so cool! And so are you!

She really does. My son is a little skateboarder-in-training - it’s the best book for capturing that new/scary feeling!

Pure gold. But then, no one is surprised 😉

When I was the mystery reader in my daughter's 1st-grade class at the end of last year, I chose The Teeny-Weeny Unicorn -- based on your mention of it, somewhere -- and it was the absolute perfect choice. Even the (23yo) teach was riveted!

I have that nightstand vibe, too. I just get so EXCITED and then my brain can’t slow down enough to finish before jumping to the next, ya know?

Love this list so much. Off to check out the few that aren’t yet on my own read and loved list!

TOTALLY! I am the same way. And then there are the nights when I'm caught in-between the sheets with my phone and NOT my book. I always regret it!

Wow, so honored to be included on this list with some of my own faves! And thank you for your kind words. I’m excited to read the ones I haven’t gotten to yet. Also I love how you ended it 😂 Guess who was also up with insomnia last night haha

You deserve wholeheartedly to be on this list. WHAT A YEAR for you, babe! And ugh—I've not been sleeping at all this week (rough week all around). I'm so ready to hibernate in a couple of weeks!

❤️ Thank you — I feel so in awe of everything that has happened! And very grateful.

Ugh, no! And what I hate about insomnia is it makes more insomnia…and then the lack of sleep impacts everything. Hang in there, friend. Hope it gets better soon!

Thanks for this list! My favorite picture book this year was Vikings in Love by Doug Cenko — I literally laughed out loud in the bookshop reading it, and chuckled to myself the whole drive home. Then chuckled again as I was reading it to my rambunctious but tender hearted nephew. Just total delight.
