I love this exercise — and what a poem it created! Feels like the perfect keepsake to capture the year’s enthusiasms.

I've never been able to keep a diary, either! Your fragments make a beautiful collage. Thank you for sharing!

This piece really stood out to me:

“It’s not a dictionary word but a magic word

bizarre and beautiful

reality colors it

a syntax for life

body language without the body

conveys something about being alive”

Here’s to a year of more magic words and gorgeous syntax! 🥳

Wow wow wow, my friend. You sure do have a way with words. You are a poet, a connecter, an igniter. I feel inspired every time I read your posts. I absolutely love your poem and felt very seen by it too.

As you shared your history with diaries, I realized something about you that connects with something about me. Even though I'm an illustrator, I often say I'm not great a drawing. This is not meant to be self-deprecating...it is more to do with the fact that I'm bad at sketching fully formed things from my mind. In order for me to get anything on the page, I need shapes and pieces to work with. I need something to react to. Only then can I work my way to my final illustration. So I've had a hard time "drawing" just like you maybe have a hard time "journaling" -- BUT you've discovered your own way of receiving the same benefit through Moonbow, Tumblr, instagram, etc. Does that even make any sense? I'm having a hard time with words due to a cold.

Anyway, whatever you call all that you do, I know one thing: you are a great writer. And I can't wait to see where the fragments and fire take you this year!
