Hi everyone! I’m happy to announce that there will be a Picture Book Club meeting this month on November 21st at 11 a.m. PST on Zoom! Join me and my special guest, the children’s book author-illustrator Rachel Michelle Wilson (At the Kids’ Table on Substack), to discuss two picture books:
Pig Town Party by Lian Cho (2024)
There’s a Party at Mona’s Tonight (1981), written by Harry Allard and illustrated by James Marshall.
We encourage you to join in on our discussion. Don’t worry; it will be a cozy, intimate event where everyone feels safe to ask questions and share opinions. However, if that’s not your thing, we still would love for you to come and listen to the group. If you can’t make it, there will be a replay of the meeting on Moonbow, but only for paid subscribers.
We recommend you buy a copy of Pig Town Party from your favorite independent bookstore or get it from your local library. But just in case you can't get physical copies of either of these books before the event, here is a digital copy of Pig Town Party and There’s a Party at Mona’s Tonight.

Here are some things to think about before the meeting:
What is your favorite spread and/or page turn?
What is your favorite line?
Both of the main characters in these books are lovable tricksters who do questionable things. Do you feel bad for them? Do you disagree with them?
What do the covers reveal about the story?
What kind of experiences do these books offer, and why might that be important for kids?
We are so excited to hear your thoughts and share our own as we explore together what makes these picture books great.
My copy of Pig Town Party is arriving soon and I can’t wait! 🐷 ❤️
